About this item

A fine grouping which belonged to William 'Bill' Wakefield who served with 10th Battalion Denbigh, 5th Coy, No 1 Platoon in 1942. Bill was an architect working for the Ministry of War, a reserved occupation.  In 1943 he was moved to first Bishopton and then Paisley and to Renfewshire, where he served with 115 Battery, 101 Renfrewshire (Mixed) Home Guard. Some items from his time in this unit are available separately. He was there until late May 1944 when he moved to Woking and became the local ARP warden for the remainder of the war.  The identity card belonged to Vivienne who I believe was his wife. There is also Bill's Defence Medal in its original postal box, along with the official notification which bears his name and address to the front.

The grouping is accompanied a set of insignia which includes a set of unworn Home Guard titles, a uniform removed Home Guard Title, a set of long service chevrons, Home Guard area and number badges, some NCO stripes and some of Bill's rank stars, or 'pips' as they are often called. There is also a Royal Welch Fusiliers cap badge and a Home Guard lapel badge.

Two original period photographs are included, one of which is a portrait of Bill in his Home Guard uniform. The other is a group shot of his platoon which shows him seated front left.

A very nice group which has come direct from the family.
