About this item
A classic 1960s men's single breasted raincoat dating from the 1960s and made by 'Monarch'.
This style of simple raincoat with a raglan sleeve became very popular in the 1960s and would have been a common site in any town or city in the UK. This example is the 'Driway' by 'Monarch Weathercoats' and is made from a fine yet coarse brown coloured whipcord so typical of the period. It features a fly front which covers four buttons whilst the cuff features a small tab and two buttons allowing for the cuff to be fastened tightly.
The interior of the coat is fully lined with rayon and the original label is still present to the neck. THe interior of the pockets are chamois lined with is another nice feature.
This style of coat is cut in a loose, flowing style and would have originally been worn over a suit. With this in mind I believe it is designed to fit around a 38" chest, but please make your own decision based on the measurements provided. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 23 1/2"
Inside arm - 16 1/2"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 17 3/4"
Length - 44"
The coat is in good wearable condition but does show signs of wear and use with a variety of stains etc. Please study the pictures provided and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn vintage item.
A simple, elegant coat which is so typical of the era. This would make a great addition to any wardrobe!
