    About this item

An original WW2 Jungle Green aertex blouse as used in the Far East by the British Army and RAF, dated 1945.

This pattern of jacket was introduced in 1943 alongside the JG Battledress trousers. It is made from cellular cotton, often referred to as 'Aertex', which is a lightweight, breathable fabric which is ideally suited to hot climates. Based loosely on the woolen battledress the tunic is cut in a short 'blouson' style and features a full button front and waist belt. As well as this it features pleated chest pockets and an inner pocket. As this blouse was designed to be worn against the skin the button which fastens to the inner pocket is reversed and fastens through the inside of the breast pocket, meaning that the button can't rub on the wearers skin. All the buttons are the coconut husk type usually seen on Indian made clothing and the waist buckle is a standard, chromium plated example used on wartime Battledress jackets.

Inside the jacket the original manufacturers markings are still present. The usual circular date stamp often found in Indian made items is present and the date of 1945 can just be made out. There is another stamp to the inside below the neck although it is no longer legible. To the left of this the original owner has marked his initials 'C.D'.

The jacket will fit around a 36" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat measures -

    Chest - 21"
    Waist - 14 1/2"
    Inside arm - 21 1.2"
    Outside arm - 24"
    Shoulders - 16"
    Length - 20"

The jacket is in good condition with some signs of wear and use. There is a small hole to the left breast pocket and part of the button that fastens that pocket has come away. There is a small orange mark to the rear of the left shoulder and some pucking of material, mainly around the waistband. Overall it displays very well but may other have small issues commensurate with age.

All in all a nice example of this pattern of jacket which would make a nice addition to any collection.
