    About this item

An original 1945 Dated Indian Made British Military Cotton Drill Bush Jacket in excellent condition.

This scrace pattern of late war bush jacket is rarely encountered today and features a three button closure to the front as opposed to the standard four usually seen. This, coupled with the lack of lower pockets and plain patch pockets to the breast, were clearly all designed to save on fabric and labour with the result being this utility piece. The three button front has a wide spacing giving the jacket a unique look.

The jacket is made from a khaki coloured cotton drill as was often used for tropical uniforms during this period. It features long sleeves with a button cuff and buttoning epaulettes to each shoulder. The stand and fall collar can be worn fastened to the top or left open as shown in the pictures.

Inside the tunic are a number of ink stamps, all of which are typical of those found in wartime Indian made military items. The circular date stamp is present and the year of 1945 can be seen. As well as this is another circular stamp with the number 8 which relates to the size. The original owner has also marked his name inside the jacket in ink which reads 'J. D. M Hardie'.

The jacket will fit someone of around a 38" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat measures -

    Chest - 22"
    Inside arm - 17"
    Outside arm - 23"
    Shoulders - 17 1/2"
    Length - 28"

The tunic is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. It only shows limited signs of wear and age and overall it displays very well. One of the front buttons has been replaced with a brown plastic example which is most likely a period addition. There are some holes to each epaulette where badges have previously been fitted as shown in the pictures. Please study the pictures before purchasing and remember that this is a pre-worn vintage jacket.

A nice example of this uncommon part of bush jacket with a clear date.
