About this item
A scarce original private purchase Canadian Highlanders Tam O'Shanter dating from the Second World War.
This pattern of Tam O'Shanter was worn by various Highland regiments of Canada as well as Scotland. This example features a blue coloured 'Torrie' to the top which denotes it as belonging to the either Stormont & Glengarry Highlanders or The Toronto Scottish Regiment. The Stormont & Glengarry Highlanders regiment landed as part of 3rd Canadian Division on DDay and then fought through until the end of hostilities in Europe in 1945. The Toronto Scottish took part in the Dieppe Raid and went to fight in North West Europe from July 1944 until the end of hostilities.
Being a private purchase example it is made from a barathea wool rather than the serge used on standard issue examples. It features a green coloured silk bow to the rear and the interior is lined with a high quality khaki coloured cotton. The original label is present to the inside of the hat and bears typical late 1930s to 1940s graphics. It bears the maker's name of 'Eastern Hats & Caps' along with the tagline 'For Dad and his Dad'. It also bears the place name of 'Truro Nova Scotia'.
The hat will fit around a size 6 7/8 - 7 well.
The condition of the cap is excellent as can be seen in the pictures. There are some limited signs of wear and age but overall it displays very well with no serious flaws or damage. There are two holes to the front where a cap badge has previously been fitted.
A very rare piece of original wartime headwear to a highly collectable Canadian regiment.
