    About this item

An original early mid Second World War RAF flying jacket in well worn condition.

This jacket was made in around 1941 or 1942 based on the construction. It is a 'multi-panel' example but only features a small number of panels denoting it as an early version. The square collar shape and belt positioning would suggest that this jacket was made by 'Wareings' who were a prolific manufacturer of leather items during the war.

The main zipper is original and functional but is missing its puller. The sleeve zips are also made by D.O.T and feature the Air Ministry AM and crown marking the reverse. Both sleeve zips are the same with both being original functioning examples without pullers. The original waist belt is also present and comes complete with its nickel plated belt buckle which shows some signs of age but functions as it should. The collar has had the two chrome plated metal 'dee' rings to the underside removed but the leather collar strap is still present although it has lost all of its stitching as illustrated in picture 10. The metal eyelets to which an elastic collar can be attached are also still present to the reverse of the collar. The interior of the jacket features the long 'Devon fleece' style of fut which was commonly used during this period.

The jacket is in well worn condition as can be seen in the pictures. There are numerous flaws and many signs of age which are illustrated in the pictures and reflected in the price. There are some sections of stitching which have come away, there are areas of sheepskin which are very worn and the leather exterior shows plenty of signs of wear and age. The jacket is therefore sold as a display item only. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a distressed example with various flaws.

A nice original Irvin jacket in wearable condition and in a larger size. The jacket is a smaller size which will fit on a mannequin and offers a good display jacket at a much discounted price.
