    About this item

An original British made RAF MKIII Cold Weather Flying Jacket which was made in 1984.

This pattern of jacket was introduced into service with the RAF in the 1960s and stayed in issue for decades. It is made from a ventile cotton which was popular with the RAF for many years due to its very good waterproof and windproof qualities. 'NZ' marked black metal zippers are fitted throughout and the cuffs fasten with velcro. A pen pocket is located to the upper left sleeve and between the outer layer and the lining is a mess liner which is intended to keep the wearer at a good temperature. There is also a hood concealed inside the jacket which pulls out through the back of the neck and there is a large fishtail inside the jacket which is held in place with velcro.

The original label is still present to the interior and is bright and legible. It bears the maker's name of 'Beaufort' who were a prolific manufacturer of clothing for the RAF during this period as well as the title 'Suit Aircrew Cold Weather MK3 Jacket'. The size is marked as 6 which is intended to fit up to a height of 181cm and a chest of between 96-106cm. The RAF stores number 22c/1301229 is also present as is the date of November 1984.

The jacket is a medium size which is designed to fit a 37" - 41" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

    Chest - 26"
    Inside arm - 21"
    Outside arm - 25"
    Shoulders - 19 1/2"
    Length - 24"

The jacket is in excellent condition for its age and is still very wearable. It has only very limited signs of wear or use and the outer shell is still a deep green colour as it would have been when it left the factory. There are no signs of sun fading or laundering and overall it displays very well indeed. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original early 1980s example which are now becoming harder to find.
