About this item
An original 1945 dated RAF Ordinary Airman’s four pocket tunic complete with its original insignia and waist belt.
This original tunic was the standard pattern worn by all men in the RAF under and including the rank of sergeant throughout the Second World War. It features a complete set of original brass Kings crown buttons, early war pattern embroidered eagle badges to the top of each sleeve and Leading Aircraftman badges below this. A good conduct stripe is fitted to the bottom of the left sleeve and five long service chevrons are fitted to the lower portion of the right sleeve.
Inside the tunic the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Jackets O.A.' and states the size as No. 8. The maker's name of 'J. Harvey Ltd London' is also present as is the War Department broad arrow marking and 1945 date.
The tunic is designed to fit a 37" - 38" chest and when laid flat it measures -
Chest - 19 1/2"
Waist - 15"
Inside arm - 19"
Outside arm - 25 1/4"
Shoulders - 16 1/2"
Length at rear - 30"
The condition of the tunic is very good and it displays well as can be seen in the photographs. It is still a nice deep blue colour and there are no signs of excessive wear or similar. There is some slight damage to the waist belt as illustrated in the pictures. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
Altogether a nice original wartime RAF tunic with all of its original badges. This is an authentic unmolested example which would make a fine addition to any collection.
