    About this item

A rare original 1944 dated British military 'Coats, Duffle' in very good condition.

This jacket is made from a white coloured wool which is the same as that used for the Fear Naught jackets. This same heavy wool was used for the more common duffle coats which were longer and made in a fawn colour. The jacket is designed to be worn as an outer layer and is therefore cut in a loose manner. It features a short collar, two patch pockets to the front and fastens with three wooden toggles and rope loops.

Inside the coat the original label is present and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Coats, Duffle' below which is the size of 4 which is intended to fit a 42" - 44" chest. The maker's name of 'John Hammond & Co Ltd' is present as is the date of 1944 and the War Department broad arrow marking. As well as this there is a War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'M' which denotes 1944 as the year of issue.

The coat is cut in a wide manner so will fit a range of chest sizes, depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

    Chest - 28 1/2"
    Inside arm - 21 1/2"
    Outside arm - 25"
    Shoulders - 21"
    Length - 32"

The coat is in very good condition for its age with some limited signs of wear and use. There are no serious flaws or damage and overall it is a very wearable jacket. There is a small amount of moth grazing as illustrated in picture 10. There is another small hole to the front right chest which is illustrated in picture 5 although this is only noticeable under close scrutiny. Overall it displays well but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A rare piece of British vintage military which is a genuine wartime issued example. These coats are hard to find in such excellent condition!
