About this item
A scarce original Royal Air Force 1968 Pattern Aircrew Pullover Jersey which belonged to a flying officer.
This pattern of jumper was produced specifically for the RAF and was intended to be issued to both groundcrew and aircrew alike. It is a heavy garment made from thick green coloured wool which features a ribbed pattern. It features a long body, crew neck and extra chunky cuffs. The original owner has added Flying Officer rank to each shoulder which is a nice period detail.
The label is still present inside the jumper and bears the title 'JERSEYS PULLOVER AIRCREW/GROUND CREW 1968 PATTERN' which is followed by the RAF stores code of 22C 8405-99-130. The maker's name of 'GOULD' is also present as is the size of 3. The contract number of A/78/Cic/34169/DC65 (3) is also present and dates the jumper to the late 1960s or early 1970s.
The jumper will fit up to a 42" chest and when laid flat measures - ~
Chest - 19" (stretches to 21")
Inside arm - 21 1/2"
Outside arm - 22"
Shoulders - 21"
Length at rear - 29"
The overall condition of the garment is good with some signs of wear and age including some small holes which are evident in the pictures. Please take time to study these before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A rare piece of Cold War RAF clothing!
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
