About this item
An extremely scarce Commanding Officers full dress/levee sporran. The sporran was the property of Lt Colonel Orelie Hannah who was in command of the regiment when killed in action at the battle of Magersfontein during the Boer War. He was killed carrying out suicidal orders from the officer commanding. His horse was shot from under him and he was then shot several times by Boer marksmen. There is a presentation card included with the sporran when Lt Colonel Hannah was presenting a new officer, 2nd Lt Lang, to Queen Victoria at either Buckingham Palace or Windsor. There are two copy pictures of him wearing a kilt and trews included with the sale. Gilt Cantle with black leather insert and silver regimental ornaments. White horsehair and 5 gold bullion tassels. Red Morrocco leather pouch with maker/retailer mark Brook & Son Edinburgh. All in first class condition.
