About this item
A scarce and desirable early 19thC Nepalese Hanshee Kukri. The blade with characteristic shallow kaudi, and spine with elegant twin spine fullers.
Handle length 4.25 inches. Blade length 13 inches. Overall length 17.5 inches. (Measurement taken in a straight line)
The blade with signs of sharpening, light rust and old corrosion. The wooden "Lambendh" grip in good condition, with minor chips to the central grip ring and pommel. It shows signs of having been inlaid with "bow tie" shape inlay, or perhaps carving at one time, and also has signs of old repaired cracks. These look very old, and the blade is solid in the hilt, with no movement.
Housed in its original leather covered wooden scabbard with a quill work geometric decorated panel. The rear khissa pouch is present, although now partially detached, and is also decorated with quill work. The scabbard has lost its original kothi, and due to this has split along the back edge. It is now in a delicate condition, but any original surviving Hanshee scabbard is now a great rarity.
The whole would benefit from a thorough clean, repair, polish and general TLC.
All in all a scarce example of a high quality and early Nepalese Hanshee, no previously offered for sale on the open market, which would grace any collection.
