    About this item

An impressive antique kukri. Likely dating to the last quarter of the 19th century.

This example with a curved 13.75 inch blade with kaudi and twin spine fullers. The blade has a layer of old grease and light rust, and would benefit from a sympathetic clean and polish. The blade maintains a keen edge, with signs of sharpening but no serious  edge knocks.

The hardwood grip in generally good condition, well fitted to the iron bolster, with no movement between blade and hilt.  No visible cracks, the central ring, with an elongated band of floral decoration below. Some chips to the pommel and heel of the grip and signs of an old repair. The grip being measuring 3.5 inches long.

Total length just under 17.5 inches overall.

Housed in its original leather covered wooden scabbard, with tooled decoration. The rear pouch is present, but has begun to seperate from the main body. This could be cured with a replacement sangli band. The main body of the scabbard signs of a split and loss to the wooden core at the mouth, and a resulting small tear to the leather, although this does not effect the sheathing or the kukri. . Original karda and chakmak present, the latter with attractive domed chequered butt. The khissa is absent.

A very good example of a late 19thC kukri, which will clean up very nicely.
