1. The Regimental Badge (Scabbard Locket)
Insignia: The top mount (locket) features a embossed Gordon Highlanders regimental crest set over the St. Andrew’s Cross (Saltire), surrounded by a thistle wreath.
Honours: It displays the Sphinx over the battle honour "EGYPT" (top) and the Royal Tiger over "INDIA" (bottom)—classic Victorian/Edwardian period honours for the regiment.
2. Hilt & Pommels
Grips: Carved dark hardwood (typically bog oak or stained ebony) with traditional Scottish basket-weave / carved knotwork, secured with white metal pins/studs.
Pommels: All three pieces (dirk, knife, and fork) feature openwork acanthus leaf crown caps housing foil-backed, faceted orange/amber cairngorm (citrine-style) glass jewels or gemstones.
3. Blade & Companion Set (By-Knife & Fork)
Blade: Single-edged steel blade featuring filework along the back edge (scalloping) and a defined fuller running down the center. Light age patina/surface oxidation present, which is typical for steel of this period.
Companion Set: Matching side-knife and two-prong fork fit neatly into the top two compartments on the front of the scabbard.
4. Scabbard & Mounts
Leather-wrapped sheath with four ornate silvered (silver-plated or nickel-silver) embossed mounts, featuring acanthus leaf and scrolling oak/thistle scrollwork.
Condition Summary
Overall: Very Good / Fine condition for a piece over a century old.
Completeness: Highly desirable because it retains both matching companion pieces (knife and fork) and all three matching cairngorm pommels intact.
Wear Notes: Light surface wear to the silvering/plating and minor patina on the high-carbon steel blade, all consistent with age and typical display or parade wear.
