About this item
A good example the 1938 pattern red Cross Hewer worn by grades from Helfer to Haupthehelfer. It features a roughly 26.6 cm long broad and squared blunt tipped nickel/silver plated blade with a saw tooth edge intended for cutting splints etc. The squared tip was incorporated to satisfy the terms of the Geneva Convention which specified that medical personnel should not carry weapons.
Fittings are of cast alloy with a nickel plate. The pommel is without dents with very minor lifting to the plating. Grips are black Bakelite and very good, as is the crossguard.
Beneath the crossguard sits the leather buffer pad, the ricasso marked “Ges. Geschützt.” The blade itself is full length, without damage but with spotting which will possibly polish out and which shows well in the images. There is good cross graining.
Finally, the scabbard is without dents but with scratching to the paintwork.
UK SHIPPING ONLY to those of 18 or above. Please send confirmation of age to 07775 661417
