About this item
Unusual c.1780 English infantry hanger short sword. With an early form of stirrup hilt – typical period crude hilt attachment to the pommel – similar attachments to hangers of this time are noted in Swords and Blades of the American Revoution by Neumann. The grip is made from shaped wood – probably walnut. Blade of fullered style found on English swords of the late-18th Century. Interesting and probably unique example. Blade length is 24.5 inches (29.5 inches overall). To view more images of this item and see my other stock please follow the link to my website.
