About this item
A German WWII Sturmabteilung (SA) Dagger, also known as the SA Service Dagger (Model 1933).
1. Key Identifying Features
The Blade Inscription: The blade is etched with the standard SA motto, "Alles für Deutschland" (Everything for Germany) in a traditional Gothic/Fraktur script.
The Hilt & Grip: * The wooden grip is standard brown pearwood or walnut, shaped in the distinct Holbein style.
It features the SA runic emblem (the stylized "SA" in a circle) near the top pommel.
An eagle clutching a swastika (the Hoheitszeichen or national emblem) is inset into the center of the grip.
The Scabbard: The scabbard has a brown anodized or painted finish, matching the standard issue uniform color of the SA (the "Brownshirts"). It also includes the original leather hanger strap and clip.
2. Maker's Mark Analysis
Your fourth and fifth photos provide an excellent, clear look at the maker's mark on the reverse ricasso of the blade.
Manufacturer: Hugo Linder C.W. Sohn (Hugo Linder C.W.'s Son).
Brand Name: LINOR (etched clearly inside the central oval).
Location: Solingen-Weyer. Solingen was the legendary knife- and sword-making hub of Germany.
Production Era: This circular logo format indicates an Early Period (1933–1935) production dagger. Early daggers are highly sought after by collectors because they were made with higher-quality materials, such as solid nickel-silver fittings rather than the cheaper plated zinc or aluminum used later in the war.
3. Group Markings
On the lower crossguard (visible right under the maker's mark image), there is a stamped two-letter code: Ns.
This is an SA Group (Sachsen / Saxony) mark. When these daggers were issued, they were stamped by the regional SA group headquarters that distributed them to the men in that district. Finding an early dagger with a clear, authentic regional stamp adds notable historical context to the piece.
Condition Note
The piece shows a very natural aged patina. The blade has some minor scuffing and standard runner marks (from being drawn from the scabbard), but the etching remains remarkably crisp, and the wood grip appears intact without the severe cracking often seen in these pieces.
The Maker: Carl Linder (based in Solingen, Germany) is a highly regarded and historic German blade maker. The company used a distinct logo (often featuring a crown or the Linder name) stamped onto the recasso of the blade.
