About this item
For sale is a WW2 Period Philippine Bolo Knife & Leather Sheaf.
The Bolo is a predominantly cutting and chopping knife used in the Philippines and has a thick, leaf-shaped blade. The bolo began life as a farming tool but its effective use in numerous conflicts, including the Philippine Revolution, World War One and World War Two, to name but a few has given it huge cultural significance.
This has a buffalo horn carved handle, brass bolster, steal blade with leather sheaf. This bolo knife is in good condition.
Japan invaded the Philippines in December 1941 to control Southeast Asia. A combined force of United States and Philippine troops fought the Japanese. They eventually surrendered in 1942. Local Filipinos formed secret guerrilla groups. They fought the Japanese for years until Allied forces returned and liberated the islands in 1945.
