About this item
23rd Light Dragoons Regimental Reward of Merit 1814-16. The Medal is silver and approx 45x37mm. It has the Sphinx and Pyramid of Egypt on on side and words: "The Reward of Merit And Faithful Service XXIII LD" on the other. Script on rim named as William Jones.
The Medal is identified by Balmer (R110-established "1814 or earlier") One of only seven identified as surviving. The medal has a (modern) MGS ribbon with small oblong suspension.
The regt. served in Egypt in 1801 and is famous for its disastrous charge at Talavera in 1809; also served at Waterloo.
