Naval General Service Medal 1796 to 1840. Bar: Basque Roads 1809. To Able seaman John James, HMS Resolution. This is a Rare bar as only 558 bars issued for this action out of 35 ships involved. This bar was issued for the complete destruction of the French fleet at Anchor in Basque Roads of St Nazaire. Roles confirm action.
Lord Cochran organised and led the fleet of Naval warships/fire ships into the Roads completly destroying the French fleet.
