About this item
Original Second World War RAF Air Ministry Chartboard Type D, used by aircrew for navigation and plotting.
The chartboard is clearly marked:
Chartboard
Serial No. 1731/42 (which dates it to 1942)
Ref. No. 6B/163
with Air Ministry crown marking.
It retains its adjustable plotting arms, scales and fittings and comes with its original canvas carrying cover. The cover is separately Air Ministry marked “Chartboard Type D – Ref. No. 6B/164”, which appears to be the stores reference for the cover itself.
A very good and increasingly difficult-to-find example of original wartime RAF navigation equipment, particularly desirable with its associated canvas cover.
Condition is used, with age-related marks, scratches and wear consistent with service and storage. The canvas cover also shows staining and general wear. Please study the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
A substantial and impressive piece of original WWII RAF aircrew/navigation equipment.
Weight approx: 3 kg.
