    About this item

For sale is a WW2 A Generation Risen By John Masefield; Illustrator-Edward Seago Published in 1942. This has its original dust cover and has a special note written inside stating “to mrs e howis, and happy recollection of a friendship formed in wartime, 1942 from May theridan.”

The foreword states;   A GENERATION RISEN A Book of Poems and Picture. by JOHN MASEFIELD and EDWARD SEAGO within the lifetime of men now alive, Walt Whitman wrote that 'the real war will never get in the books.' That is true of all wars and indeed of all events involving many people. In this war from the beginning attempts have been made to keep records, though the difficulties are great and the need for caution imperative. This book is not so much a record as a tribute to some of the young people who have come forward to save the nation in her danger. There are many of these, serving in so many different ways that half a dozen books like this would only thank a few; however, let a start be made." So John Masefield introduces this volume of poetry and pictures. A beautiful book, it is one that can be looked through again and again, and one that will be treasured as an inspired and inspiring tribute to the strength, and courage, of the Generation Risen. The Poet Laureate and Edward Seago are well known as collaborators in The Country Scene and Tribute to Ballet. This new book follows on naturally from the others, for both poet and artist have been drawn together again by the beauty, dignity and grandeur, which can be found in Britain at War. Obviously many more subjects could have gone into this book; but it is hoped that further volumes will be produced, so that they will together provide, at the end of the war, a unique and comprehensive record of these days.”   This will be sent via royal mail 1st class signed for and dispatched within two working days.
