Awarded to Sergeant Francis James Balson served with the 2nd Battalion Hampshire Regiment. British War Medal (27577 SJT. F. J. BALSON. HAMPS. R.). Born in 1887 in Crediton, Devon. He saw service in the French Theatre of Operation with 2nd Battalion Hampshire Regiment. Papers indicate he was commissioned after attending the Officer Cadet Unit on return to the UK. He was commissioned on the 30th November 1917 as 2nd Lieutenant Francis James Balson served with the Royal Berkshire Regiment. Records indicates he was never to serve overseas.
