Rare Original 1940s RAF Private Purchase Canvas Holdall

An original private purchase RAF holdall dating from around the time of the Second World War. 

This holdall is typical of those purchased by members of the Royal Air Force during the 1940s. It is made from a green coloured canvas and features leather piping and edging. Two leather straps fasten through metal buckles on the front and there are two rope filled leather carry handles, one positioned to each side. The base features a metal stud to each corner. Underneath the main flap there are two short 'ears' and another layer of fabric which pulls tight with a cotton tape which passes through metal Dee rings (picture 8). Inside the bag two RAF labels were found which would suggest the original owner was in the RAF.

The bag is in good condition with some signs of wear and age. There is a strap missing from the front which would have allowed a padlock to be fitted and there is some loss of stitching to one of the leather surrounds on the handle. Overall it displays well but is a vintage piece of luggage which has been used and therefore may have other small issues commensurate with age. A nice original WW2 period bag which would make an excellent addition to any RAF collection.
