About this item
An original British anti-gas rattle dating from the Second World War.
These wooden rattles were mass produced in the late 1930s and in the early part of the Second World War for the Air Raid Precautions. They were designed to be used during a chemical gas attack to worn members of the public to put on their gas masks.
The rattle is made from wood and features a turned wood handle and racket system which makes a loud 'clacking' noise. This example has been painted a pleasing colour of brown which is typical of the period and has had the number 18 stencil in black to one side.
In good condition, the rattle displays well and functions as it should.
An iconic piece of WW2 Home Front memorabilia which would make a nice addition to a collection.
