    About this item

For sale is a WW2 Period Set Of Japanese Soldiers & Civilians Kobe Doll Lucky Charms Accompanied by five glass swirl fish & bird charms.

The Kobe doll charm is in excellent condition. However three out of the five glass charms are damaged. The other two are in great condition (one carp & one bird).    These are rare and unuseual items to come across.    They are little treasures made of celluloid with pop-out eyes. These delightful charms were made in the late 1920s through the 1930s. They come in hundreds of shapes and colors with many of the most popular based on traditional Japanese designs, including temples, lanterns and Daruma (a figure without arms or legs). Equally popular are the western motifs such as totem poles, Mickey Mouse (go figure!), animals, and ghosts. The common element is the pop-out eyes.   There is some evidence that the Kobe charms were redesigns of Japanese mechanical toys made as early as 1890.   Kobe charms were attached to a string or cord, or in multiple groups of three or more hanging from a celluloid ring. Many designs also sported dangling feet or legs.   Often sold at souvenir shops on Motomachi Shopping Street and near Nunobiki Waterfall where tourists gathered. Their funny movement and jocular facial expressions attracted the attention of Kobekko and tourists.    These will be sent via Royal Mail 1st class signed for and dispatched within two working days. Also happy to send internationally.   This will be sent via 1st class signed for and dispatched within two working days. Also happy to send internationally.
