For sale is a WW1 British Field Service Postcard, To London December 16th 1915
This postcard has sections lined out, revealing what the soldier wishes to say to there loved one, this one is as follows; “I am quite Well. I have received your letter dated…Parcel… Letter follows at first opportunity Wishing you a happy Xmas Date Dec 16th 1915” The unusual part of this, something different was written which wasn’t allowed! The address for this field service post card is as follows; “Miss J Stacker 12 Woodbury Street London SW” Field Service Postcards were used by soldiers on active service to send speedy messages home without any need for censoring by their officers. Their purpose was to reassure their loved ones that they were alive and well and to confirm that letters and parcels from home were getting through to the Front. The soldier was allowed to delete as appropriate from a selection of pre-printed sentences. If anything other than a date and signature were added the card would be destroyed. This will be sent via 1st class signed for and dispatched within two working days.Additional Information
