About this item
Military decoration that was awarded to members of the German Army who participated in ground combat with enemy forces. The badge was introduced on December 20, 1939, during World War II, and was awarded to soldiers who had demonstrated proficiency in infantry combat, including close-quarters fighting, hand-to-hand combat, and the use of grenades.
The badge was made of silver-colored metal and featured an image of an eagle clutching a swastika in its talons, with a rifle and grenade in the background. The badge could be awarded in two classes: the Infantry Assault Badge in Silver, which was the standard award, and the Infantry Assault Badge in Bronze, which was awarded to soldiers who had demonstrated proficiency in infantry combat but had not yet achieved the level required for the Silver badge.
