Manufacturer: B.C. & Co Ltd: Likely stands for Broadhurst Clarkson & Co Ltd, a well-known British manufacturer of optical instruments, including telescopes, binoculars, and other navigational aids. The company was established in the 18th century and became prominent for crafting military-grade optics.
TEL. SGT. REGTS. MKII: This designation suggests the telescope was used by a Regimental Sergeant for military observations. "MKII" indicates it is a Mark II model, an improved or second iteration of its type.
These telescopes were commonly used during World War I and World War II for field observations, scouting, and rangefinding.
Serial Number: 4393 Oscar S.126.GA: The numbers and letters indicate the serial number or production batch, which can be used to trace its manufacturing date and distribution details.
Characteristics:
Three-draw: Indicates that the telescope can be extended in three sections, a common feature in portable military scopes to balance compactness and range.
Protective leather was often added to prevent damage during transport and handling in field conditions.
This telescope is likely from the early-to-mid 20th century and could have been used in campaigns or training during one of the World Wars. Its markings and craftsmanship make it a collectible item for military history enthusiasts or collectors of antique optical equipment.
