Original 1969 Dated United States Navy G-1 Flight Jacket by Star Sportswear - Size 38

An original 1969 United States Navy G-1 flight jacket which was made by Star Sportswear and is a size 38.

The G-1 is one of the most recognisable items of American military flying clothing and was worn by U.S. Navy aircrew throughout the Cold War and Vietnam War periods. This example was manufactured in 1969 under contract DSA 100-69-C-0475 and conforms to specification MIL-J-7823D(WP), making it a genuine late-1960s military-issue flight jacket.

Constructed from brown coloured goatskin leather, the jacket has the classic G-1 design with a full-length front zip, two large patch pockets to the lower front and a mouton collar which in this instance is an especially pleasing light ginger colour which contrasts nicely with the brown leather. The jacket retains its original working front zip, together with its original knitted cuffs and waistband. The wind flap behind the zip features the letters 'U.S.N' stamped into it, as is usually found with genuine issue jackets. The rear of the jacket features a half belt and action back detail.

The interior is fully lined and retains its original military specification label, which identifies the garment as 'JACKET, FLYING, MAN'S INTERMEDIATE, TYPE G-1'. It gives the specification as MIL-J-7823D(WP), names Star Sportswear Mfg. Co. as the contractor and records the contract number DSA 100-69-C-0475. The label also retains the original size marking of 38.

The jacket is designed to fit a 38" chest and when laid flat it measures -

Inside arm - 19"
Outside arm - 23"
Shoulders - 18 1/2"
Length at rear - 24"

The jacket is in fine condition for its age and presents particularly well. The leather remains attractive, with some rubbing and surface wear to the sleeves and other areas consistent with age and use. The original zip remains in working order and the original cuffs and waistband are retained. The collar is in very nice condition with some limited signs of age and wear as illustrated. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A particularly nice original late-1960s U.S. Navy G-1 flight jacket. The desirable 1969 Star Sportswear contract and attractive light ginger mouton collar make this a very appealing example of classic American military flight clothing.
