About this item

An original Second World War Auxiliary Territorial Service combination suit dating from 1942 which is in excellent, unworn condition.

This pattern of coveralls came into issue with the ATS in the early part of the Second World War and were officially designated 'A.T.S. Overalls Combination Denim'. Made from the same green denim material as the mens two piece denim battledress and tank suit; these overalls feature a patch pocket to the right breast, slash pockets to the hips and a mandarin collar - typical of overalls made in the first half of the 20th century. The front fastens with stamped brass buttons as are commonly seen on British military items of the period and date the overalls to being made in 1942 or earlier. To the rear of the overalls is a cinchback belt and buckle.

The original label is still present to the rear and is bright and legible. It states the size as No. 1 which will fit someone of 5' 1" - 5' 3" tall with a 32" - 34" bust and a 25" - 27" waist. The maker's name 'Johnston, Allen & Co. Ltd' is present at the bottom of the label as is the War Department broad arrow. There is also an issue stamp which bears the date of December 1942.

When laid flat the overalls measure -

Chest - 19"
Waist - 15 1/2"
Inside arm - 15"
Outside arm - 21 1/4"
Shoulders - 15 1/2"

The coveralls are in very good condition as can be seen in the pictures and display well. They have clearly never been washed as they still have that crisp, new feel to them. They could be described as 'deadstock' or 'unworn' and are totally wearable. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A really good set of early war ATS overalls with a nice clear date and bright label. These would make a fine addition to any collection!

This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
