About this item
An original British Auxiliary Territorial Service coverall dress dated 1944 which is in excellent condition.
This chore dress is typical of those worn by women working in factories or in the military in the mid-century period. The garment is made from cotton as was often used for workwear. The front fastens with removable revolving shank buttons which are again typical of British workwear during this period. The cuff also fastens with the same buttons with two more used on the rear half belt.
Inside the overall the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Overalls, Working A.T.S.' and the size of 2 which is designed to fit a 35" - 38" bust. The manufacturer's name of 'B. Goldwater & Co' is present as is the 1944 date and the War Department broad arrow marking. As well as this there is a War Department acceptance stamp to the interior which is surmounted by the letter 'M' which denotes 1944 as the year of issue.
When laid flat the dress measures -
Chest - 19 1/2"
Waist - 17"
Inside arm - 20"
Outside arm - 23 1/2"
Shoulders - 15"
Length at rear - 44"
The overall is in good condition with only no signs of wear or previous use. It looks to be an unissued, unused example with no flaws aside from one mark to the right cuff. It is still totally wearable but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that they may have small issues commensurate with age.
A nice piece of wartime women's workwear with a clear label and date.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
