Original WW2 Ladies Civil Defence ARP 71 Tunic - Size No. 8

A nice original Women's Civil Defence ARP 71 Tunic dating from the Second World War which is in good condition.

This pattern of tunic was introduced in the early part of the Second World War for women serving in the Civil Defence and was worn with either the ARP 73 Slacks or ARP 72 skirt. Made from a dark navy blue coloured serge wool, the tunic features four front pockets; a waist belt with chrome plated waist buckle, black plastic Civil Defence buttons and a 'Polish' style collar. Shoulder titles have been added to the top of each sleeve which denotes that the original owner was a member of Headquarters. 

Inside the tunic the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Tunic, Pattern No. A.R.p No. 72' below which it states the size as No. 8 and the maker's name of 'J & N Goldberg Ltd'. There is no date present but these tunics were phased out in favour of the battledress style during the war making this a guaranteed wartime example. 

When laid flat the tunic measures - 

Chest - 20"
Waist - 16 1/2"
Inside arm - 15 1/2"
Outside arm - 23" (2" extra material)
Shoulders - 17 1/4"
Length at rear - 26"

The tunic is in good condition for its age with only limited signs of wear and use. There is a repair to the left breast pocket which is only noticeable under close scrutiny, mainly due to the dark colour of the material. Overall the tunic displays very well indeed. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age. 

This is a good original wartime tunic - A must have for the serious Home Front collector!
