About this item
An original MK 7A RAF flying suit which was made in 1969 and worn by a member of the United States Air Force.
This pattern of suit was made in grey as well as green as it was in issue when the RAF changed from grey to green clothing. It is made from cotton and features a variety of pockets as well as velcro waist adjusters and epaulettes. All tge zips are the original nickle plated 'NZ' branded zippers save for the main zip which is a period replacement 'Tex' branded example.
The suit is fitted with two patches to the front which give some insight into the original owner. To the left breast is a 480th Tactical Fighter Squadron patch which is clearly original to the suit. This squadron served in Vietnam before moving to Europe in 1976 where they flew F-4D and F-4E Phathom II jets out of Germany. To the right breast is another patch dating from 1981 which is from the hot air ballom fifth world championships.
Inside the suit both of the original labels are still present. The smaller label bears the stores reference number of 22c/9735352 and the size of 7. The War Department broad arrow marking is also present. Below this is a larger label which bears the title 'Suits Flying Lightweight MK, 7A' as well as instructions relating to wear and use.
The suit is in good condition overall and displays very well. It has been issued and worn however so does have some signs of age and use. It is still very wearable but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.
All in all, a nice original flying suit which has some interesting USAF history.
