    About this item

WW2 RAF BEADON FLYING SUIT. A lovely example of the very late war Beadon survival suit, the correct RAF nomenclature being "FLYING OVERALS, LIGHTWEIGHT, TROPICAL". Designed in 1945 for the Asian/Tropical theatre, it was supposed to replace the more heavyweight 1940 and 1941 Sidcot suits. It proved popular and saw service post-war before being replaced by the 1951 pattern suit. The suit had 12 pockets designed for carrying survival equipment, these items would then be transferred to a backpack allowing the wearer to discard the suit.

This example is in overall pretty good, lightly used condition. There is one small repair to the left chest area, possibly where an aircrew wing/brevet was once stitched. Other than that we can see no other major issues. Made from the famous RAF blue/grey ventile or garberdine type material. It still retains excellent color and the suit is without any damage we can see. The elasticated cotton collar and cuffs are often susceptible to moth damage, and there are signs of some light nothing to these, but overall not too bad. This suit has its original silk neck scarf still attached which is rare to find, as these were often removed. We have checked each pocket and all press studs are in place and work perfectly. The main zip is in lovely working condition. Inside unfortunately the label is now well-faded and beyond reading. looking at the suit we suspect it could be a large, so maybe a size 7 or 8. The stores reference number for this suit would of been either 22C/1053 or /1054 depending on the size. Overall a very nice flying suit, hard to upgrade from this condition. Ideal for any RAF collection, museum or display.
