    About this item

A scarce original Royal Navy 'Suits, Combination, Flight Deck' clearly dated 1945.

This pattern was introduced in 1942 and issued to those employed on the flight deck of aircraft carriers including aircraft handling parties. This was extended in 1945 to squadron commanders, instructors and deck landing control officers at Naval Air Stations in the UK for use in winter months.

The suit is made from a navy blue coloured rubberised cotton canvas and features a brass zipper to the front. The puller is plain and still retains its original cotton tape puller. A full belt is present to the waist which fastens with a black painted single prong metal buckle. The cuff and ankles feature straps and there is a flapped pocket to the left breast. The suit features a mandarin collar and black painted brass eyelets are located under each arm to allow for ventilation.

Inside the suit the maker's stamp is present and states the manufacturers initials as 'G & L' and the size of 3. The 1945 date is also present as is the War Department broad arrow marking.

The suit is in good condition for its age with some marks and stains as can be seen in the pictures. There are only limited signs of wear and overall it displays very well.

A rare piece of Fleet Air Arm kit which would make a great addition to any Royal Navy collection.
