About this item

WW2 RAF 1940 PATTERN SIDCOT FLYING SUIT. A really nice example of the Battle of Britain period 1940 pattern Sidcot flying suit, as worn by pilots and aircrew. This suit being the 1940 pattern Sidcot, it has no accommodation for any electrically heated gloves or bootees. It simply is a flying suit, that would have been worn over service dress and also worn often with a quilted liner.

This example is in very good lightly used condition, It really is very nice and it does look better than the photos suggest. The green material of the suit is in good condition. Without any major damage we can see, no rips, tears, or holes are evident. Some light soiling and fading but nothing too bad. The main zip working nicely and is in great condition, marked to the puller with DOT mark and A.M crown stamp.

The 2 cuff, pocket, and ankle zips are also in excellent condition, again all marked with an A.M. crown mark. On the reverse, we find the adjustable belt once again in excellent condition. The only minor issue is that one of the buttons for the crotch flap to the front has come adrift, this is however included with the suit and just needs a simple repair to restore it to the suit. Inside we find the suit is labeled with a nice A.M. crown label, dated 1941, and marked as a size 7 which is pretty large with size details on the label. Also, further A.M. crown ink stamped just below the label.

Overall a lovely example of this Battle of Britain era suit, which would be very hard to upgrade. Adding a nice fur collar would possibly make it look a little more cosy! But none the less the best example we have had for some time, suitable for a Battle of Britain display, RAF museum, collection, or reenactor.
