    About this item

This Silver Bravery Medal 2nd Class is identical in design to the Bronze grade but struck in real silver. It comes with the actual Legitimationsblatt for the award. It was carried in a small metal locket known as a Legitimationskapsel. This small rectangular hinged locked with the Legitimationsblatt inside would be carried by the soldier, along with a similar small sheet with his personal details, as proof of his entitlement to wear a gallantry medal.   At this time the Austro-Hungarian army did not use ID discs so this was the only identification a soldier carried.   Given the small size of these documents, few survived and the award Legitimationsblatt for the medal is much rarer than the medal itself.   Overall condition of all three pieces is very good
