Original 1953 Dated RAF Officers Crombie Greatcoat by 'Gieves'

An original 1953 dated RAF Officers Greatcoat made from 'Crombie' cloth by 'Gieves.

This pattern of coat was introduced in the immediate post-war period but is still similar to the wartime pattern. It is made from an RAF blue-grey coloured 'crombie' wool which features a soft, high pile along with fixed epaulettes, a half belt and King's crown buttons throughout. Flight Lieutenant insignia has been fitted to the epaulettes .

The interior of the coat is half lined and features the maker's label to the interior pocket which states the owner's name as 'A. F. Brewer' and the date as 1953. There is a second label which bears the 'Crombie' brand name in typical period graphics.

The coat is a small size which should fit a tall 34-36" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures - 

Chest - 20"
Inside arm - 19"
Outside arm - 26"
Length - 44 1/2"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"

The coat is in good condition for its age with plenty of signs of wear and use. It is still very wearable and displays well but is far from perfect. There is a small moth graze to the front as illustrated in picture 4 although this is only noticeable under close scrutiny. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn coat which may have small issues commensurate with age.
