    About this item

A rare original Barbour Durham jacket in a size 40" chest which was made between 1982 and 1987.

This is the first type of Durham jacket to be produced which is unlined unlike later examples. These are highly sought-after due to their association with various regiments such as the SAS and the Royal Marines who wore these in the Falklands Conflict. They were a popular jacket as they can easily be rolled up into a small size and carried easily.

The jacket is made from a green - brown coloured wax cotton and features a full zip front which is metal and has a Barbour brand puller. This is covered by a fly which can be fastened with brass press studs. There is a second layer across the shoulders which acts as a storm flap and helps add an extra waterproofing element. There is also a hood which fastens with a drawstring and two patch pockets are located to the skirt.

Inside the coat there is a drawstring at the waist and no lining. The original labels are all present including the maker's label which bears two Royal Appointments and dates the jacket to being made between 1982 and 1987. There is also a size label which bears the chest size of 40".

When laid flat the jacket measures -

    Chest - 25"
    Inside arm - 16 1/2"
    Outside arm - 23"
    Shoulders - 20"
    Length at rear - 32"

The jacket is in well worn condition with original period repairs, plenty of signs of use and some holes etc. The stitching has also pulled slightly under the arms. It still displays well but please study the pictures and bear in mind that these are a vintage, pre-worn pair of trousers which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A hard to find early version of this jacket which has become very collectable.
