Kriegsmarine Officer's White Topped Peaked or Visor Cap

An excellent example of a Kriegsmarine junior officer’s White Topped Peaked or Visor Cap, considered by some and not least of all by me, as the “Holy Grail” of Kriegsmarine collecting.

Once in my own collection before joining a prominent Kriegsmarine collection in Canada, I now have the opportunity to offer the same Cap again.

Synonymous with wear by U Boat commanders, they were the only branch of the Kriegsmarine allowed to wear them  year round, uniform regulations dictating wear by other branches being restricted to summer or warm climates.

The Cap is in very good condition, showing just the right amount of service use and no damage. The peak or visor is felt covered with the ranks from Leutnant sur See through to Kapitan Leutnant shown in gold bullion wire scallops with a single twist of matching thread to its lower edge. The underside is finished with black imitation leather.

The chinstrap is secure by two fire gilded buttons while the black mohair hat band holds a cockade of celleon thread stitched by the lower half. Above the cockade is a fire gilded pin back eagle.  

The waffle pattern white top is of course removable and held firmly in place by a sprung metal hoop in the hat band. When removed for washing the rayon upper to the cap remains attached to the body of the cap itself. Both the diamond shaped sweat guard and grey sweatband are in excellent condition.

A large size of about 58cms I believe it would be very difficult to upgrade this beautiful example if indeed you can find another for sale.
