    About this item

A hard to find original RAF MK3A Firefighters Jacket in blue which is a size 5.

These jackets were produced in limited numbers during the 1970s before being replaced by a green version in the latter part of the decade. Made from a thick, heavy RAF blue coloured serge wool, the jacket features a single breasted fly covered front which fastens with a high quality, heavy gauge metal zipper which is marked 'NZ' to the puller which denotes 'Newey' as the maker. This is covered with a fly which fastens with plastic buttons which are held onto the jacket with cotton tape - a design developed for the British military in the 1960s and often encountered on military clothing from this era. Zips are also located to each cuff and belt hangers are located at the rear of the waist. The jacket does not feature any pockets or other details which gives it a utilitarian look.

The interior of the jacket is lined with cotton and a hanging loop is located to the neck. There is also a single interior pocket. The original label is present below the neckline and is worn but still present. It bears the size of 5 along with the contract number and the War Department broad arrow marking.

The jacket is intended to fit a 38" - 41" chest and when laid flat it measures -

    Chest - 22"
    Inside arm - 21"
    Outside arm - 24"
    Shoulders - 18"
    Length at rear - 25 1/2"

The jacket is in good condition with some signs of wear and age. It displays well and is totally wearable with no serious flaws or damage. There is wear along the bottom edge of the lining as illustrated in picture 11 but overall it is a good example. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that these are a vintage, pre worn pair of trousers, which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A nice original example of this hard to find pattern of jacket which is in good wearable condition.
