Original 1945 Dated 1940 Pattern (Austerity) Trousers - Large Size 36

An original pair of 1940 Pattern (Austerity) Battledress trousers dated 1945 and in good condition which are a hard to find large size 36" waist.

This pattern of trousers came into issue with the British Army in 1942 replacing the earlier 1940 pattern. These are an austerity pattern which do not feature belt loops, covered buttons to the pockets or tabs to the bottom of the legs as the earlier patterns did. They are made from the standard khaki green serge wool used for British uniforms during this period and are fitted with green coloured vegetable ivory (plastic) buttons, typical of 1945 manufacture. 

This particular example no longer retains its original factory label but there is an outline of where it was originally stitched. They do still retain the War Department acceptance stamp to the interior however, which is surmounted by the letter 'Z' which denotes 1945 as the year of issue. The number 12 is also stamped to the interior which denotes the size. 

The trousers are a larger size which will suit a 36" waist and when laid flat they measure - 

Waist - 18"
Inside leg - 30 1/2"

The leg has been taken up inside the trousers by 1 1/2" and the original return is present inside this allowing for a maximum of 2 1/2" to be let down. 

The trousers are in good condition with some signs of wear and use. There are a couple of small moth holes as illustrated in the pictures but overall they display well and are totally wearable. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage item which may have small flaws commensurate with age. 

A good original pair of Wartime trousers which would suit a collector or re-enactor well.
