About this item
An original World War Two era letter, on the back of a Christmas card, with envelope. Envelope is in poor condition and has come apart, being very fragile, but the letter/card is intact, slight deterioration around the edges, as would be expected.
Envelope is date stamped 7 December 1944 and has the Army Examiners stamp, showing it has passed Censorship checks. Addressed to Mrs Schmidt of Pomona, California.
Has been sent by "Your Son", Charles, so presumably Charles Schmidt. The A.S.N. on the front of the envelope is 39588259. The A.P.O. is 15593 and unit given simply as Co. E. 1st Plat.
Letter mentions how cold and muddy it is, and how he hopes he will be home for next Christmas, being dated 4 December 1944. The card features a G.I. holding up both US and UK flags and states 'Merry Xmas 1944'.
