    About this item

An original British Army Royal Armoured Corps MKII Steel Helmet dating from the 1950s or 1960s and in good condition.

This pattern of helmet was introduced in 1945 replacing the original pattern worn during WW2. The main feature of this new pattern was the 'lift the dot' fastener which attaches the liner into the helmet. The helmet shell remained virtually unchanged and this pattern was worn by a number of units of the British Army including in Northern Ireland.

The helmet retains an excellent amount of paint to the exterior which appears to be a period repaint at unit level with some areas of textured finish and some without. The interior features its original paint finish which looks to be the light green coloured used by British Motor Bodies during WW2 which may suggest that this is an early production example. The original owner has marked his name to the interior which reads 'Eggshell Swede Harper 22' which is a nice period addition.

The original liner is present and bears the War Department broad arrow marking although there is no date or size that I can find. It is split in two places as illustrated in the pictures. Aside from this it appears sound. The original chin strap is also still present and retains some of its elasticity.

A very nice original and unmolested helmet which displays very well. This would make a great addition to a collection without a doubt!
