    About this item

An original pair of British Military 1950 Pattern Jungle Green shorts dated 1952 and in good condition.

This pattern of shorts are the same as the Khaki Drill version which was introduced at the tail end of the Second World War. They saw service for a number of years with the British Army and RAF. This style with the cross belt fastening is now often referred to as 'Gurkha Shorts'.

The shorts are made from a green dyed cotton drill and feature a button fly and slash pockets to the hips, whilst twin pockets can be found to the rear. The shorts feature two belts which fasten around the waist with chrome plated buckles of a slightly different style to those usually employed.

Inside the shorts retain their original maker's label which bears the title of 'Shorts, Drill (SCC 15), 1950 Pattern'. The size is marked as 2 which is designed to fit a 31" - 32" waist and the maker's name of 'John Hammond & Co. (1922) Ltd' is also present. Below this is the 1952 date and the War Department broad arrow marking.

Due to the style of the waistband the shorts are slightly adjustable. When fastened on the loosest setting they measure -

    Waist - 15"
    Rise - 14
    Rear rise - 15 1/2"
    Inside leg - 20"
    Outside leg - 20"
    Cuff - 13"

The shorts are in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. They have clearly been washed and laundered but don't show any real signs of undue wear. The cotton is nice and soft making them a comfy pair of shorts to wear but they do have a couple of marks to the rear as pictured. Overall the shorts are very wearable but please study the pictures as they form part of the description.

All in all a nice pair of original 1950 pattern shorts which would make a great addition to any summer wardrobe.
