    About this item

An original Royal Air Force War Service Dress Blouse made in 1945 which was issued to a member of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force.

This pattern of jacket came into service in late 1940 listed as 'Suits, Aircrew' before being re-designated 'War Service Dress' in 1943, remaining virtually unchanged. The blouse features the metal slider waist buckle, RAF style scalloped pocket flaps and a pair of hook and eyes to close the neck. Standard Black plastic buttons are fitted to the jacket.

This example was issued to a lady who served in the WAAF as an Assistant Section Officer which is denoted by the single piece of rank tape fitted to each epaulette. It is quite likely that she was issued with a men's jacket as it was a better fit than anything offered in the women's issue sizes.

Inside the jacket the original label is present and is still bright and legible. It states the size of the jacket as 9 and bears the manufacturer's name of 'Arthur Miller '. Below this is the 1945 date and the War Department broad arrow marking. The original owner has also marked their serial number and the letters 'WAAF'.

The jacket is in nice excellent condition with limited signs of wear or use. It is still the deep blue coloured it would have been when new and is not washed or faded out. Overall it displays well but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

All in all an excellent example of a wartime RAF WSD Blouse which displays exceptionally well. This would make a fine addition to any RAF collection.
