About this item
An original 1952 Dated Royal Air Force Ordinary Airman's Tunic in a large size No 16.
Whilst this tunic is dated 1952 it is identical to those worn throughout the Second World War by all RAF airmen up to the rank of Flight Sergeant as both a working dress and a walking out uniform.
This particular example features brass Kings crown RAF buttons and is devoid of any insignia although there are clear traces of where it has been removed. It is a blank canvas which could be badged up for a WW2 or post-war impression.
Inside the jacket retains its original issue label which states the size as 37" - 38" chest, 34" waist and height 6' 1" - 6' 2". Below this is the 1952 date and the War Department broad arrow. Just visible below this is the War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'L'. The original owner has marked his serial number to the interior although it is hard to read.
The tunic is in reasonable condition for its age but does have some flaws and is far from perfect. There is some moth damage and staining, particularly to the right hand sleeve as detailed in picture 2. There are other marks and some small holes and there is a repair to the top of the left sleeve. This would be covered if eagle badges were to be re-fitted. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it has flaws.
This could suit a reenactor well due to being a hard to find tall size and will make a good stand-in for a war dated example.
