About this item
1960s RAF Observer/chest type parachute harness, as used and worn by large bomber aircraft crews, such as the Avro Shackleton etc. This would of been worn by crew that moved about the aircraft. A separate pack would then be attached incase of bailing out the aircraft.
The harness is in pretty good condition, no issues or damage we can see. The quick-release buckle working nicely, and all metal hardware is in good condition as well. The harness is labeled, manufactured by G.Q, stores reference number 15A/144, "TYPE D. MK.1" and dated "27 SEP 1966". Fitted with a very nice and clean back pad, labeled and marked by Irvin, with stores reference 15A/191 on the label. A very nice clean harness, identical in pattern to the wartime examples, even the stores reference number is the same, but produced in this later brown harness material. Ideal for an RAF museum display, collection, or reenactor use.
