Reproduction WW2 RAF Observer Parachute Pack

A high quality reproduction WW2 RAF observer pattern parachute pack which was most likely made by 'Rigger Depot' in the United States of America.

This pattern of parachute was introduced in 1933 and used by a wide variety of RAF aircrew personnel throughout the Second World War in conjunction with the observer parachute harness. The Canadians also used this pattern as did the United States Army Air Force who precured a large number of these parachutes for their crews stationed in the U.K.

The parachute pack consists of a khaki coloured cotton canvas envelope style bag which features a reinforced rectangular back panel. This has two large metal Dee rings fitted through it which fasten onto the ski hooks at the front of the observer harness. Carry handles are fitted around the sides and cotton sheathed bungees are employed around the body of the pack. These all finish in the centre of the front where there is a tab which fastens with the correct pattern of nickel plated 'Lift the Dot' fasteners. There is also a chrome pull handle fitted.

The pack is fitted with a copy of the original label to the outside which bears the maker's name of 'Irvin Air-Chute' along with period graphics. There is also a War Department broad arrow marking adjacent to the label.

The interior of the pack is fitted with a weighted insert of the correct shape and weight for added authenticity.

The condition of the pack is very good as can be seen in the pictures. There are no flaws or issues of note but it is a second hand item so please study the pictures before purchasing.

A fine reproduction which offers an excellent stand-in for an original at a fraction of the price.
